Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate 150 years of the Sidcot Old Scholars' Association (now Sidcotians) this weekend. It was a fabulous event and it was heartening to see Sidcotians from so many different decades joining in the fun. We had an impressive date range covered, with Sidcotians from 1949 to 2020 attending and a number of tables dedicated to one particular year group.
We also welcomed back many first time visitors, who had not been at School since the day they left. The evening kicked off with mingling in the Hub, a toast from our guest of honour and fellow Sidotian Peter Openshaw and a reply from the current Headmaster Iain Kilpatrick. The four course meal featured a gazpacho of tomato soup (our sophisticated slant on a Disaster Fund soup), a fish starter, followed by lamb and Cheddar strawberries for dessert. There was a Sidcotians quiz, compered by Adrian Sisman and compiled by outgoing Sidcotian President Jenny Sisman, Alumni Relationships Officer, Wendy Haslam, and Archivist Christine Gladwin. Congratulations to the joint winners on Tables 4 & 5. Many enjoyed the fact that they were now dining in a space that used to be known as the 'Boys' Shed.' We have a great selection of photos from the event. If you have more of your own to share, please send them into Rachele in the Alumni office: alumni@sidcot.org.uk.
The evening ended with tours of the School with Iain Kilpatrick & Christopher Greenfield ("two Heads are always better than one!") and dancing in the marquee.
Day two was a great success too with a number of Sidcotians joining us for meeting for worship, School and boundary walk tours and tea and cake in the Hub. Many thanks to all who attended and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
In Friendship
