THOMSON, DOROTHY RADFORD, died on January 10, 2023, at the age of 97.
Dorothy was born in Bristol, England. She was educated at Sidcot School from 1936 - 43 and later studied at Birmingham University. From 1953 to 1956 Dorothy spent some time working in Paris for Arrowsmith Ltd, later returning to the UK to pursue a career in Personnel and Social Work, including a role for the Adoption Society and as an Assistant Almoner for Derby County Hospital. In 1960 she married Angus (George) Thomson, and in 1963 they emigrated to the United States, New Jersey, Detroit and then Indianapolis. During her time in Indianapolis Dorothy worked as a volunteer for the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Both Dorothy and Angus were avid climbers and glider pilots since 1956 (and were part owners of a Schliecher ASW 20B sailplane; Dorothy achieved gold with two diamonds). In 1981 she helped her husband build a two-seater single-engined Sonerai II aircraft. In 1997 the couple retired to Westcliffe where Dorothy was a member of the Garden and Book Clubs. After the death of her husband she moved to Pueblo, in 2018.
Dorothy certainly embraced the Sidcot School motto to "Live Adventurously". Not only did she climb mountains and fly sailplanes, she also tried skydiving. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Joan Kidd, of the Isle of Wight, England; four nephews, Peter, Nick and Simon Kidd (England), David Thomson (Australia); and many friends.
Dorothy donated her body to science, and, at her request, there will be no services. Sincere thanks go to her caregivers at Bonaventure Senior Living in Pueblo and at New Century Hospice.
