The Sidcot community is sad to announce the death of John Walmsley who was Headmaster from 2001 to 2011. John came to Sidcot as Deputy Head in April 1998 and became Head in September 2001. During his tenure, he oversaw many developments, including the building of the Arts Centre and introduction of the IB. Indeed, it was his enthusiasm for international education that took him to UWC Atlantic College as Principal in January 2012.
A dedicated servant to Sidcot – its students, staff and wider community – John will be remembered for his care, kindness and approachability as well as leading the School with skill and commitment. He regarded Sidcot very much as an extension of his family and so we were delighted when he was able to return last December for the Sidcotians’ Christmas Reunion. John’s wife, Barbara, was a teacher and four of his children James, Dominic, William and Cissy, attended Sidcot. To them and his daughters Josephine and Kate we extend our sincere condolences.
