Emma first worked in the pub as a barmaid of the historic pub. Recently, in November 2024 she has returned as its new owner 12 years after pulling her first pint there.
As a teenager, Emma told her mum she was going to work in the candlelit pub which recently featured in Channel 4’s ‘True Love’ series. Emma comments:
"It’s daunting taking on a place so treasured but it doesn’t feel like work because I love it and nothing will change."
Previously run by Ms Clements who took on The Crown Inn in 2013 with her husband Brian, who sadly died of pneumonia in 2020.
Emma, who also breeds prize-winning horses in Sandford, said: "I used to ride past the pub at 17 and told my mum I’d work there."
Some of the loyal regulars were worried that it might change when Karen left. Emma has reassured everyone and comments:
"The Crown will be staying the same... everyone feels like family and we have a brilliant team, including my mum, Helen and fellow Sidcitian Johnny Coombes (S: 2003 - 2022)."
The Crown is a great local pub with a lovely selection of ales and ciders. Well worth a visit as its set in a picturesque location with a nice garden. A perfect pit-stop for a mendip walk. We would highly reccoomed it to any passing SIdcotians.
