How has your experience at Sidcot made a difference in your life?

I was very fortunate to receive a bursary towards my school fees back in 2001. I came to Sidcot to study for my A-Levels and thoroughly enjoyed the two years I spent at the school.

Where did life lead you after leaving school?

After I left Sidcot I went on to study for a BSc in Human Health and Nutrition at St Mary’s College (part of the University of Surrey) which also doubled as the British Athletics Centre for Endurance Running. I received a scholarship from the London Marathon to help towards my university fees and spent 4 happy years studying there whilst competing for the University and British Athletics. The highlight of my time at University was competing for Great Britain in the World Student Cross Country Championships In 2006 where I finished 2nd. In 2008 I was selected for Team GB to compete in the Beijing Olympic Games over 10,000m. I have gone on to race many times for England and Great Britain on the Track, Cross Country and on the Roads. I am now aiming to gain selection for Team GB for the 2020 Olympics.

One final thought?

At Sidcot, I learnt how to manage my time very well giving myself the best chance of getting a good education whilst at the same time balancing my sporting commitments. Looking back, it was a wonderful opportunity and I will be forever grateful for being given the chance to come here!
